Scuba Diving in Mojacar
Learning to Scuba dive with Scubajive-Mojacar. You know its been said before that Scuba Diving can be likened to walking on the moon by astronauts!

It’s so far removed from anything else you are ever likely to experience on this planet. So ‘alien’, that really there is nothing else that compares to it on Planet Earth.

Think I’m exaggerating? Think I’m being a touch dramatic? I’ve been accused of it before, but not this time, my friends.

If you’ve never dived before, let me tell you that the first time is incredible. Before you take your first breath below the waters surface, the little voice in your head, tells you, “No, don’t do it! It can’t work, you won’t be able to breathe underwater, it’s impossible!” and then it happens. Like a baby taking his first steps, eyes bulging in astonishment that putting one foot in front of the other does actually make you walk. You take your first breath, head below the surface, and magically, in comes sweet, glorious air!

I’m not going to be so presumptuous to say that diving is going to change your life (although it has for many people, myself included). However, what I will guarantee is, love it or loathe it, you’ll remember your first underwater adventure for as long as you live.

Diving over the years has taken me all over the world. Meeting people from all walks of life, seeing new and wondrous places, both under the ocean and above. I’ve lived and worked in places that most folk only dream about, and I’ve been up close and personal with aquatic animals that are so fantastic that they just defy belief. I’ve been lucky. But I certainly never intended any of this to happen.
A friend and I, back in the ‘Old Country’ (England), thought we’d try our hand at diving, just for some fun, We both enrolled in a PADI Open Water Diver Course to see what all the fuss was about, and the rest, as they say, is history!

So now that I’ve ‘wet’ your appetite, if you’ll excuse the pun, how do regular, normal people, like you the, reader get into diving.
Well, there are 3 options for first time divers at Scubajive on Mojacar Playa:-

Discover Scuba Diving.
Scuba Diver Course
Open Water Scuba Diver Course.

(All are available to people 10 years old and above.)
Before I explain what these entail, first let me dispel a few myths.

Scuba Diving is not a sport. It’s a recreation activity, and so is available to everyone and anyone, and you don’t need to be some lean, mean diving machine to become a diver.
Young, old, short, tall, skinny, overweight, sporty people and couch potatoes, short sighted, long sited etc etc. So hopefully you get the point by now, Diving is fun, and open to anyone who’s interested.

Discover Scuba Diving
This is a non-certification course, and is conducted in less than a day. It’s a great way to experience diving for the first time without committing to a full course. It consists of basic theory session, practice of simple diving skills, and a guided dive on one of the many great dive sites in the area.

Open Water Diver Course

This is a four-day course and trains you up to become a fully qualified PADI Diver.
On Completion you’ll be able to dive anywhere in the world with another qualified diver to a depth of 18 metres, rent Scuba Gear, and join guided dives. The Course is run by a PADI Instructor and consists of a day of theory, and three days of diving, both in a swimming pool and in the sea. This course is a great challenge, loads of fun, and on completion, a real achievement.

Scuba Diver Course
This qualification can be achieved in as little as two and a half days and is run in a similar manner to the Open Water Diver Course. This is ideal for holidaymakers, or for people with only a limited amount of time.
The successful student on completion is able to dive to a depth of 12 metres on guided dives, supervised by a PADI Professional. Once again, this very popular course provides you with a licence to dive anywhere in the world.

So there you have it. Now you have the information, the rest is up to you.
Scuba Diving can really broaden your horizons. A new hobby, a new career, or perhaps just something a little more interesting and satisfying than baking in the sun on your holidays.
It’s a great way to meet people and discover a whole new world.
The possibilities are endless and the adventure is just waiting for you, and what’s more, it’s all available right on your doorstep, here in sunny Mojacar.
